Logistics Service Overview

Getronics can provide an end-to-end logistics service, either on standalone basis or by integrating field services with an established distribution network. Getronics Logistics Services provides for the screening, replenishment, disposal and purchase of computing equipment (or other commodities) to meet the requirements of a managed maintenance service. The service runs under a regime of continual improvement whose aim is to reach optimal performance against all aspects of the service. The amount of equipment required for the engagement is based not only on the base contractual requirements but all other variables involved in delivering the service such as predicted and historical failure rates, reverse logistics cycle times and the various component costs within the end to end solution.

The Getronics Logistics Services uses the Xelus Plan toolset, which is software designed for tactical parts planning, including forecasting, inventory planning and replenishment. Xelus Plan is utilised to manage the logistics operation using a centrally managed inventory, best in class repairers and a series of warehouses located throughout the UK.

The repair loop is tightly coupled with the repair centre, so that all items for repair are sent directly to the repair centre who will log the defective item onto the planning system. There is a three tier approach to repair priority with items being repaired within 2, 5 and 7 days. The high volume repairs provide economies of scale pricing that is the best in industry.

The service supports the Getronics Hardware Maintenance Service (link to Maintenance & Warranty) that manages in excess of 14,400 active part numbers, replenishes 190 field based engineers, handles circa 22,000 visits per month and over 50 customers in the UK.

Environmental Responsibility

Logistics and Break-Fix services have the potential to cause a significant environmental impact and so customers need to choose a provider that is actively working to minimise this. Getronics are continually looking at how to reduce the impact that logistics services has on the environment through a number of key initiatives:

Real estate shared footprint

Getronics uses a shared footprint for the real estate occupied by their warehouse. At the moment occupancy is 100% because this is needed to house parts. If the number of parts housed were to reduce Getronics would seek to reduce the space they occupy and share space with other suppliers.

Parts disposal

Parts are all planned and purchased on the basis of demand. Spares are managed from cradle to grave and at the end of their lifecycle disposal is managed through WEE regulations. Products are listed and broken down into their component parts and remarketed or recycled if at all possible.

Parts repair

The repair yield for Getronics is 96.9%. For the vast majority of repairs the defective unit is put in the packaging of new unit. This leads to 99 % recycled packaging.

Parts transportation

Getronics methodology for delivery is on a network basis and our distribution partners run a trunking network. The network is consolidated out to maximise usage.

Getronics work with specialist advisor the Carbon Trust on ways to reduce carbon emissions across the services provided to customers. Examples of this include Consolidation of routes, Reduction of mileage and a Greener vehicle fleet.

By working with Getronics, you can be confident that your supplier is minimising their impact on the environment, allowing you to demonstrate your green credentials and take advantage of a better corporate brand image.
